Caffeine Chemistry Coffee @ Chime Heritage, Penang.

Hello readers! So after weeks of relaxation (slacking), I've recently started working as a freelance video editor at Colomono, finally applying what I've studied in college to work ohyeahhhh. Before I started working, I managed to try out Caffeine Chemistry Coffee with one of my friends, Virginia before she went back to Ipoh and thanks to her for the introduction :)

The number of seats is limited downstairs so you might want to head upstairs, outdoor seatings are available as well.

A very simple yet comfy environment.

Menu (without additional charges).

The food is quite limited when we visited, there were only cakes, sandwiches, a breakfast set and salads (new menu has been added currently). So we ordered their only two types of sandwiches:

My Cajun Chicken sandwich, mad love for their mashed potatoes! It wasn't seasoned heavily so the taste wasn't as tasty as KFC's but I supposed it was healthier this way, not to mention they were really soft and warm when served! As for the sandwich itself, I like how they provide the meat generously, I'd say the taste can still be improved, the cashier said it's a spicy type but the taste was kinda bland for me, and the bread used (ciabatta) was rather hard for us to cut or even chew, maybe the bread is made that way but I'd personally prefer croissant or other breads that are softer, that'd make the eating easier.

Virginia's Pesto Chicken- If compared to my cajun chicken, I'd say the pesto chicken has stronger flavor of spices and more appealing in my opinion. She had the same likes and dislikes as I do, we both like the mashed potatoes but not so much on the bread, overall it's still good as the price is as affordable as RM12 nett! That's all for now, till then, see ya!

The Safe Room @ Campbell Street, Penang.

It's dessert time! So after dinner session with Colomono Flowers which I've mentioned in my prev post, it was roughly 10pm and we figured it was still early for us to go back home, so off we went to The Safe Room located near Moustache Houze. It's not just-another-cafe kind of cafe as it's famous for its nitrogen coconut ice cream which will be introduced in a bit, also their ice cream are all made from fresh fruit! Non-fruit flavours are available as well such as mocha and oreo.

The cafe is easily noticeable by the S lock signboard glowing at night.

And the cafe was sooo crowded and we had to wait for like 20 mins to get our table, but good things are worth the wait eh? Was kinda glad that other customers were waiting patiently as well and no one cut queue! So after we got our table we made our order at the cashier.

Our order:

Butterscotch latte with a rather phailed chocolate syrup art but it's ok look doesn't matter, the taste was still ok tho.

Rose Cheese Cake which all of us loved at first bite! It was rather smooth and soft like we were eating whipped cream in solid form, each bite was filled with strong flavour of rose and the best part is that it was not greasy at all, we were basically complimenting non stop for like five minutes.

Behold the famous nitrogen coconut ice cream! Didn't expect that I could try it out since it's one of their signatures and it's selling fast, almost every table has it, lucky lucky us. Was kinda sad tho because the nitrogen gas only stays for awhile after it was served, unlike their Dragon breath (popcorn with nitrogen gas) that allows you to breath the gas out (like shisha lol. no I've not shisha before). Still, the coconut ice cream itself is so freakin good! It tasted like shaved ice with a very strong coconut taste and it's very cooling, just right for Penang's hot weather.

After dessert and some talking, it's picture time!
One of the many failed photos we took hehe.

That's all for now, see ya!

The Alley in 5 Stewart Lane, Penang.

Hello readers! My final semester has started and I decided to hangout with my college mate, Kelxy before things get busy as we are taking different courses, Kelxy in PR while I'm in Broadcasting, it would be hard for us to have hangouts due to different schedule. We have decided to visit The Alley Penang as we heard that it is famous for their churros and cronut. It is located near Kuan Yin Teng and thanks to Waze for bringing me here :')
It would be kinda hard to locate the shop as there is no signboard and another problem would be the limited parking spaces, it took me four rounds to finally get a parking slot.

The menu. I'd say the prices are pretty affordable and there are not taxes included.

Drinks: Iced Mocha and Chocolate Mint Frappe. The coffee taste was strong for mocha, suitable for coffee lovers. Chocolate Mint tasted rather sweet for me but would be great for Penang's hot weather.

Thumbs up for the Lemon Cheese Cake! Every bite contains strong flavour of lemon and it tasted refreshing in every bite. The lemon flavour makes me wanting more and the cheese was so smooth and soft, it didn't taste greasy at all!

Their famous Churros with nutella and cinnamon dips (Other options available are caramel and salted caramel). I like how the churros are made to order so they were all warm when served, they tasted crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They matched well with the nutella but not so well with the cinnamon, so we had to dip both of them to attain a better taste.

In overall, the food and drinks were really good and so is the environment, services are great as well but do avoid from sitting behind as it's kinda warm inside and you'll need to face the washroom, and also I got my blood sucked from mosquito in three different places. Patience is also required to find the cafe and also a parking slot.

Till our next hangout, xoxo :)

La Vanille Cupcakes & Macarons, Penang.

Hello readers! Few days ago my working colleagues and I have decided to go further a bit for our lunch break as we have no idea what to eat in our area, mostly we would go Gurney food court, Paragon food court, Kapitan or Ali for lunch lol, so one of the colleagues suggested La Vanille which is located in Hutton Lane (beside New World Park) since they have 10% discount for students!

Was attracted by the beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes.

Based on the name you would obviously know they sell cupcakes and macarons, hence I hereby presenting you their cute cupcakes decorations! They are all really cute and you can actually order the cupcakes for someone's birthday, anniversary and many more, the staff would customized the cupcakes based on the occasions.
Aren't they cuteeeee?!

Macarons which I'm still having phobia towards them, just couldn't forget how I got sorethroat and fever after I consumed the ones from Valer*e's. Anyhow, some blog reviews stated they are ok tho.

They are also selling cakes if you are not a fan of macarons, heard that their Signature Tiramisu is quite nice.

And it's ordering time! The menu is located on top and the prices are consider cheap if you compare it with some other cafes, bring along your student card for 10% discount!
My tummy was starving and so I ordered spaghetti carbonara set which includes a glass of ice lemon tea/ green tea. I thought the carbonara could fulfil my tummy but I.WAS.WRONG. Should have ordered their signature Honey Grill Chicken since the reviews are quite good, unlike my order..

Look at my sad-looking spaghetti, with so little spaghetti, ingredients and sauce. Tbh it tasted good but it could've been better if the portion is bigger and of course creamier, not to forget add some ingredients. My mom be like "That's what RM9.90 looks like" when she saw my photo lol. End up I had to buy a curry puff from Mak Ee which is few doors away.

Friend's Egg Mayo croissant. 2 baby croissant drizzled with a little amount of honey on top and some hashbrowns with cherry tomatoes on the side. It tasted good to her as the croissants are really crispy with a little bit of sweetness, portion was quite small to her as well and later on she purchased 2 tuna puff from Mak Ee.

My intern friend, Angela on the left and Ker Li on the right, a very funny and helpful full time colleague :)
Thank you for bringing me here even tho the food was quite disappointing, their desserts would taste better according to the reviews on other blogs, main course are just.. meh.

Ending this post with a cute bunny.
Chao :)

Valentine's Day at Miam Miam Penang Part 2

Finally part 2 is up! For those who wonder why I have two parts of Valentine's Day, you may find it out HERE which is also the Part 1. I'll only introduce two desserts in this post as I've already shared about their starter and main course in the first part, so once again go check it out eh!

Caramelised Banana Pancake, bf liked the sweetness of the banana on the side but not to a banana hater like me, thus my comment might not be accurate here lol. Bf's a fruit person so if he likes it I bet other banana lovers out there will have the same thought too! Aside from the banana, the pancake was light and fluffy, it bonded well with vanilla gelato but it melted really fast :(

Ahh didn't realize one of my fat fingers in it until now *faint*
Valrhona Chocolate Souffle. I adored this more than the banana pancake as I love chocolate! Who doesn't? Miam Miam is definitely an expert in making airy and fluffy souffle, bf poked it and was like "omg the surface is so thin", I liked the warm chocolatey taste inside, it surely is an enjoyment to our taste buds. However, please be cautious of the temperature cause I burned my tongue at first bite. In overall, I'd say it was ok as I prefer their mains more, don't take me wrong, they do serve really quality desserts but I'm more to a heavy food person, so if there's any dessert lovers out there you should give it a try! :)

Victoria Sweet Pastry at Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

Back to work again after my CNY holidays and I spent my last day of holiday well by meeting up with my darling Khui Ching, bestie since form 3! We actually wandered around Paragon after lunch and couldn't think of any dessert place to dine in cause I've already tried the two mainstreams dessert cafes HERE. Long story short, she suggested that we go for Victoria Sweet Pastry since both of us never went there before.

It's located in one of the shoplots near Tesco Tg Tokong, pretty easy to find cause there's like only one or two shops here if not mistaken and you don't have to worry about the parking space.

You will be welcomed by a princessish, girlish, pinkish, a little bit of purplish environment.

 Dessert time!

Dar's Chocolate Coffee Macaron. The coffee taste is there but I don't really like anything in coffee flavour. I mean I love coffee but only in liquid form, coffee lover may have a try on this. I'd say the nuts are not necessary as macarons are not meant to be hard.

Mixed Berry Macaron if not mistaken, got confused cause they were first labelled as green tea flavour LOL, then a waitress said they labelled it wrongly and it should be blueberry flavour, and then another waiter said it's lavender flavour, then when the bill came, it's mixed berry flavour. Ok choose the one you prefer.

Despite the confusion, it tasted pretty good actually, I like this better than the previous one, it's not as sweet as the ones I tried last time at Valerie something (forgotten) I still remember how I got sorethroat and fever after consuming them. But, there is chocolate filling in the middle of the macaron which I didn't like it cause it tasted bitter and the macaron itself is already not so sweet.

Thank you darling for the picha!

There are some other cakes and tarts to be choose from.

Camwhored with darling. She blogged about it too and she mentioned that I'm cute teehee read about it HERE!

Blueish ootd
Looking forward to our next meetup! xx

Recipe : Biscuit Based Tiramisu

A couple of days ago my mom made her all time favourite dessert (sort of, everything's her fav as long as it's dessert) which is Tiramisu! This was actually our second attempt, the first one was not a success, it was so good we finished it in one day, so here I am, sharing the recipe for you readers! The process is quite simple actually, but the cost is higher than the ordinary butter/chocolate cakes and cheese cakes.
From left, you'll need rum, ladyfingers, 250g of mascarpone cheese, small box of whipping cream, coffee, and sugar if you want to reduce the bitterness of coffee. The amount is sufficient for a standard rectangular container.

First, stir the whipping cream using electric mixer for not longer than 2 minutes, until there are lines appear on the surface when you're stirring. And also use only LOW speed, this is really important cause when you overstir it, the mixture tends to separate into liquid and solid form, which you can't use it unless you want to make a lousy tiramisu. When you're done, keep it in the fridge for 2 hours.

Next, mix the coffee and rum together. The amount depends on the portion you intend to make and the taste you desire. You can add in more coffee if you want a stronger coffee taste, or add sugar if you don't, or you can also increase the amount of rum, you have the power to decide. In our case, we didn't add any sugar in it but we did add more rum cause we planned to add sugar in the mascarpone cheese.

Then, use only a eggbeater to just spread out the mascarpone cheese (the one on the left), the purpose is just to make sure there are no chunks of cheese inside. I personally think it's better to add sugar in here instead of the coffee because the cheese is actually tasteless so it would taste nicer even if you just eat the cheese layer. You can get the whipping cream out of the fridge after 2 hours.

Then, pour them together and mix well, the cream layer is done!

The following steps are really simple, dip the surface of lady fingers with the coffee and rum mixture for one second per side, make sure both sides are dipped. Don't dip it for too long cause they absorb really fast. 6 pieces are just nice for the container.

Then, spread the cream mixture using spoon, spatula or anything that you feel easy to handle.

Another layer of lady fingers and another layer of cream!

Almost done teehee.

Even enough to make two extra cups for my baby and aunty.

Happy family photo. When everything is done, keep them in the fridge again until the next day, then it's ready to be served with or without chocolate powder. Not so hard afterall right? Hope this recipe is useful for beginner baker like me :)
