Recipe : Biscuit Based Tiramisu

A couple of days ago my mom made her all time favourite dessert (sort of, everything's her fav as long as it's dessert) which is Tiramisu! This was actually our second attempt, the first one was not a success, it was so good we finished it in one day, so here I am, sharing the recipe for you readers! The process is quite simple actually, but the cost is higher than the ordinary butter/chocolate cakes and cheese cakes.
From left, you'll need rum, ladyfingers, 250g of mascarpone cheese, small box of whipping cream, coffee, and sugar if you want to reduce the bitterness of coffee. The amount is sufficient for a standard rectangular container.

First, stir the whipping cream using electric mixer for not longer than 2 minutes, until there are lines appear on the surface when you're stirring. And also use only LOW speed, this is really important cause when you overstir it, the mixture tends to separate into liquid and solid form, which you can't use it unless you want to make a lousy tiramisu. When you're done, keep it in the fridge for 2 hours.

Next, mix the coffee and rum together. The amount depends on the portion you intend to make and the taste you desire. You can add in more coffee if you want a stronger coffee taste, or add sugar if you don't, or you can also increase the amount of rum, you have the power to decide. In our case, we didn't add any sugar in it but we did add more rum cause we planned to add sugar in the mascarpone cheese.

Then, use only a eggbeater to just spread out the mascarpone cheese (the one on the left), the purpose is just to make sure there are no chunks of cheese inside. I personally think it's better to add sugar in here instead of the coffee because the cheese is actually tasteless so it would taste nicer even if you just eat the cheese layer. You can get the whipping cream out of the fridge after 2 hours.

Then, pour them together and mix well, the cream layer is done!

The following steps are really simple, dip the surface of lady fingers with the coffee and rum mixture for one second per side, make sure both sides are dipped. Don't dip it for too long cause they absorb really fast. 6 pieces are just nice for the container.

Then, spread the cream mixture using spoon, spatula or anything that you feel easy to handle.

Another layer of lady fingers and another layer of cream!

Almost done teehee.

Even enough to make two extra cups for my baby and aunty.

Happy family photo. When everything is done, keep them in the fridge again until the next day, then it's ready to be served with or without chocolate powder. Not so hard afterall right? Hope this recipe is useful for beginner baker like me :)

Stone Age Cafe at All Seasons Place, Penang.

Finally got to catch up with my high school bestie after a very, very long time, like for months! We have actually planned for several times but our time just couldn't match but luckily we managed to meet up before my internship starts (can't wait)! So we decided to try out Stone Age Cafe as it is new and there's nothing else to try at All Seasons. To be exact, it is only new in Penang island cause the first branch is located in Bukit Mertajam.
It is a themed cafe where rocks are used as decorations and also in food preparation.

Honey lemon and sour plum green tea, nothing special about them.

Bestie's crispy noodle, it's basically deep fried noodle in gravy sauce, tasted quite normal to me, just like what you can normally find in hawkers. Portion is quite big though.

My tomyam noodle on the rock, which can be a good choice on rainy days because it is placed on top of a hot, like really HOT stone so the noodle will remain hot even when you have finished it. Still, it tasted normal for me as well and slightly overpriced (RM12.80), I can still get the same or better taste tomyam with lower price.

To me, the menu is quite normal, they have fried rice, noodles that you can get from ordinary hawker stalls and also spaghetti. If you're looking for something special, they have it as well, including other hot stone dishes which raw ingredients will be served to you on top of a hot stone, all you need to do is to flip or wait for a few minutes for the ingredients to be cooked.

Ending my post with selfies of my bestie and I! Alright her name is Khui Ching, also a food lover, maybe that's how we get along? ;) loveyouxx

Brown Pocket & Chocolate Passion Cafe at Paragon, Penang.

Decided to combine the two posts together because I've only got around 10 pictures altogether and I had them on the same day, SAME DAY! Oh fats, the amount of chocolate consumed is too damn high! Brown Pocket and Chocolate Passion Cafe are located on the 6th floor in Paragon, which is convenient for me to make two fattening visits.
Our reflections. The design is simple yet elegant and also very spacious! It has indoor and outdoor seating, too bad it was only daytime when we went there cause I heard their view at night is very beautiful! Check it out yourself ey?

Iced mocha, too bitter for my liking but it's fine for baby, the coffee taste is strong here, may be a good place for coffee lover.

Signature Triple Chocolate waffles. Two palm sized waffles served with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, strawberries and not to forget the three chocolate: white, milk and dark choc. Simply pour them on the waffle and enjoy! Too bad we couldn't enjoy them slowly cause the ice cream is melting fast :( In overall baby sort of like it here while me being 50/50.

Mom joined us later on and we went to Chocolate Passion Cafe for second round. Never too full for dessert I supposed? It was located on the other side of level 6.
It has outdoor seating as well but I'm not sure about the view, the size is smaller compared to Brown Pocket, perhaps their kitchen size is larger.

Sinful menu which is full of chocolate.

It's ok if you lie, that means more for me!

Mom ordered Avocado chocolate ice blended, something I will never order lol. She thinks the taste is ok but the taste of avocado is not strong enough and the drink is not concentrated enough.

Signature smokie hot chocolate which you can choose the level of concentration ranging from mildly, moderately and highly concentrated. Being the first timer I chose the moderate one, you can also choose not to have the whipped cream on top.

This is something new to me, chocolate spoon! You can either eat it directly or let it melt inside the hot chocolate.

Let it melt, let it melt, let it melt~ The hot chocolate tastes wonderful to me, so much better than the one I had in Burps & Giggles, it has strong chocolatey taste and also very smooth and creamy.

Brownies which is quite normal for me, I'd say the one in Delicious tastes better than this. This one is just too.. plain. In overall, it seems like I'm the only one who likes the hot chocolate here as baby and mom think it is normal and not worth for a second visit. Oh well, looks like you have to give it a try and decide for yourself.

Burps & Giggles in Ipoh, Malaysia.

As mentioned in my previous post, Baby, Kelxy and I had visited Burps & Giggles during our Ipoh Trip because baby wanted to visit it. It is considered one of the famous cafe in Ipoh with its cozy setting and deco.
It comprises the size of three shoplots but the main entrance is located in the middle.

Business hours.

The moment you stepped foot inside B&G you will be welcomed by
A wine bar.

And comfy seating suitable for large group of gathering, hangout etc which appears brighter than the other two indoor settings.

Decided to stay indoor for chiller environment.

Ordering method is troublesome enough, if you plan to write all of the menu on two signboards just make it as self service where we could just order at the cashier instead of the waitress staring at us while we turn our heads 180 degree to look through the menu lol. Or you could just print more menus.

Baby's ristretto- short shot of espresso. Didn't order any food as we had dimsum and egg custard before that.

Choco mellow, basically hot chocolate with marshmallow. I've always thought this is the perfect combination but not in here. Marshmallow is perfect, soft and sweet but the hot chocolate is almost tasteless that the Cadbury hot chocolate in my house tastes even better than this.

Maybe we should've try out their main course like burgers as it is their signature dish but we did not have the space for it. Plus I wouldn't pay RM28 for a burger even though I'm a burger freak (would rather spend it on Chili's burger). Perhaps their foods are really good based on other food reviews but their drinks definitely need LOTS of improvements.

In overall, I'd say their environment is nice but their drinks aren't, foods are a lil' overpriced for me.

Address
93 & 95, Jalan Sultan Yussuf,
Ipoh, Perak 30000.

First Trip in 2014 - Ipoh

So sorry that my blog has been dead for weeks as I was busy for my finals and I did not encounter any interesting things to blog about during my first week of sem break, and yesterday was my first trip in 2014 with my love one! We visited Ipoh since my college mates were there as well and I was really excited about it because this is the first time bf drove us across the Penang bridge :D
Managed to capture the sunrise :)

Camwhored with boyfie xx

These two are my favs cause bf looks so cool haha

We actually planned to depart at 6:30am but a sleepyhead failed to wake up on time so we departed at 7:30am hmph. Fortunately, we managed to have dimsum with friends (altho we were a little bit late) and thanks to one of my friend's dad for his treat!

This dimsum restaurant is located opposite the famous Foh San dimsum and we decided to give it a first try since some people say that this is nicer than Foh San. Personally, I think Foh San serve more variety of yummy dimsum in a more presentable way and in a better environment. I think I'll go back to Foh San during the next visit.
Group photo.

After breakfast, we visited Thean Chun Restaurant for its famous egg custard with caramel!
Photo from Melissa Fong

The whole thing tasted like pudding and I love its smoothness and sweetness, and it was served cold! But bf disliked it at first, says it tasted like antibiotic lol but he sort of like it after several bites.

With my tour guide of the day, Kelxy! Candid shot of us on the right.
(so far this is the nicest candid shot I got lol)

Then the three of us (bf, me and Kelxy) went separate ways with other college mates as they wanted to visit a temple for... certain purposes lol, and so we visited the (another) famous cafe in Ipoh, Burps and Giggles.
I'll create another blog post for it cause I have many pictures and some (negative) comments to share with!

The unsatisfying choco mellow (hot chocolate + marshmallow)

Next, all of us reunited at the (again another) famous Dai Shu Geok in Pasir Pinji for its yong tau fu.
It was quite disappointing and normal for me, I'd prefer Penang's yong tau fu, less choices here not sure if the business is really good or it already passed lunch hour. Bf dislikes the noodle as he can taste a lot of flavouring and seasoning in it.

After two disappointing ones I can finally taste something that is so plain yet so yummy! Presenting you the (N times) famous tau fu fa from Funny Mountain. It is definitely a must try whenever you visit Ipoh, I'm not a fan of tau fu fa until I tried this! Unlike Penang that uses brown and white sugar syrup, here they use vanilla syrup which is not too sweet and smells really nice, also it is much much smoother and softer than the others!
Took this picture after several spoons of it as I forgot to let my phone eat first.

After one bowl of tau fu fa we headed to Raja Uda to try out Ju Heng tomyam.
It disappoints me as well cause it is not spicy like at all, shall try out heng heng tomyam next time.
In overall all of the main course are disappointing and the desserts are really good! Hope I'm able to visit Ipoh again for its delicious tau fu fa! (BF see this hee)
